In 2003, Yorkshire Forward became the first Regional Development Agency to establish a network of CICs (Centres of Industrial Collaboration), an £11m initiative to help businesses harness the innovation and cutting edge technical expertise of some of the world's leading research facilities. The aim of the CIC programme is to help regional companies gain a competitive edge in the global marketplace, by helping to transfer knowledge from universities to regional companies and by encouraging investment from UK and international companies in the region. Each CIC brings together some of the finest experts in their respective fields to translate their knowledge and expertise into collaborative projects with commercial clients.

The Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering CIC was established as a part of that programme and became the  fully independent BITECIC Ltd in 2006. BITECIC Ltd has established a successful track record, with strategies and business plans for future sustainability and is now looking for further investment for future growth.
